The Chesterfield County Department of Parks and Recreation is offering two special programs for adults aged 50 and older this October. A fall dance will take place at Huguenot Road Baptist Church on Saturday, Oct. 15, from 7 to 10 p.m. Tickets are $9 and are only available in advance. (Course 22144)

In preparation for the arrival of potentially strong wind and heavy rain associated with Hurricane Irene, Chesterfield County Administrator James J.L. Stegmaier has declared a local state of emergency. Chesterfield County will open its Emergency Operations Center on Saturday, Aug. 27, at 8 a.m. The EOC will be staffed by many county departments, including public-safety officials, to coordinate the county’s overall response to the storm.
